Rodrigo Junquera, about to die after a long illness, decides to ask Virginia, his youngest son's nanny, to agree to marry him in secret so that she can take care of her children when he is not there and they cannot fire her, because she will be mistress of the house. Virginia is a young noblewoman who is in love with Rodrigo's eldest son, Carlos Alberto, with whom she maintains a pure and chaste romance.
