Bloodlines of the Damned

For seven centuries, the households that ruled the world died in impossible shapes. Habsburg kings were exorcised on their deathbeds. A Romanov heir bled for days from a knock against a staircase. A Siberian peasant wrote down, in his own hand, exactly who would murder the royal family — and was right to the month. Bloodlines of the Damned follows five of history's most powerful dynasties across their catastrophic falls: the Habsburgs, the Romanovs, the Grimaldis of Monaco, the Kennedys, and the Hope Diamond's long trail of wreckage. Each story has a rational explanation. The genetics are exact. The curse was invented by a jeweler to close a sale. The statistics are explainable. They just don't hold the grief. Featuring Rasputin's handwritten prophecy recovered from a St. Petersburg state archive, the Mayerling files sealed for over a century, the actual history of the Hope Diamond versus the story its seller invented — and the Kennedy death calendar, which is still adding pages. Every curse in this story has a clear explanation. None of the explanations make it stop.
